Christmas has come to an end. We have all been eating a lot of delicious dishes with our family and friends and enjoyed the days counting down until 2018. But when Christmas comes to an end there is a lot to clean up.
It is, unfortunately, more than just taking down the Christmas tree. All those decorations you laid out so nicely on the table, fireplace and windowsill, need to be stored so they can be used for next year.
But where do you start? You don’t want to ruin your decorations, so you have to think outside the box and find creative ways how to store and organize your precious decorations. Well, it’s easier said than done, and we understand, which is why we have put together some of our best organizing tips to show you what is the best way to store and organize your Christmas decorations.
Wrapping the Christmas lights
This is always a big problem in every household. How do you store Christmas lights properly?
When trying to roll them up you always get them tangled up with each other. But there is a way to do it without having this problem.
Here’ what you need to do: Use a disposal cardboard and roll the lights around it. It’s as simple as that.
It won’t get messy ever again – and you can even write something down about the length or colours of the lights. Doing this will also help reduce your stress when it’s time to pull them out for the next Christmas.
Organizing the ornaments
Ornaments are easily breakable and so it not always easy to store them properly, but it doesn’t have to be difficult:
- First of all make sure that when pulling them out of the tree you don’t drop one.
- Then, collect some egg cartons and place your ornaments in them.
- Afterwards, place them in larger storage containers.
Bonus: If you have transparent organizers you can easily see what’s inside! This way, you won’t have to search through all of the boxes and you’ll avoid an epic mess.
Using soft sided cardboard dividers is even better. This way you make sure your ornaments won’t chip and that they keep in good shape.
Stop Twisting the Garlands
Shiny and colorful garlands, you hang them in your tree around the fireplace, and voila! It gives a wonderful look. But how frustrated can they be when it comes to storing them!
You don’t want them to get twisted around your other decorations. So what you can do to prevent this, is to store the garlands in plastic water bottles. In fact, you can easily fit two garlands in one bottle.
Hanging the Wreaths
Those beautiful decorations are reusable every single Christmas, as long as you keep them in good condition. Place your wreath on a hanger and cover it with a dry plastic cleaning bag and store it in your closet so it will look as good as new for next year.
Best way to store the tree
Taking down the tree is not only about organizing the decorations. The tree also needs to be stored. How do you do that?
It’s very simple, use sheets to create bags for the top, middle and bottom of the tree. Store it in your garage and you won’t have to worry anymore about it getting dirty or flat.
So now you see it’s not that hard to be creative when it comes to storing your Christmas decorations properly! It’s actually really fun to do, although it can create a bit of a sad feeling as you realize Christmas is really over and we have to move on with our busy lives. But I guess, there’s always next year right?
We hope you found these organizing tips helpful.
